At the European Health Management Conference (EHMC) 2026, held in Barcelona in June, AiMA presented this paper, authored by Dr. Jessica Ortiz Huerta and Alejandro Izquierdo Domenech.
The paper sets out AiMA’s approach to Emotional Artificial Intelligence: AI designed to recognise and respond to how people feel, built as a support layer that complements rather than replaces human care. For older adults ageing at home, an emotionally aware digital companion can help detect changes in mood, behaviour and engagement over time, supporting emotional wellbeing, treatment adherence and the work of family members and professional caregivers.
The paper also opens a discussion on the governance, trust and equity questions that Emotional AI raises for health systems across Europe, calling for closer collaboration between researchers, policymakers and health managers.
The work is part of AiMA’s ongoing research programme to build evidence-based, people-centred Emotional AI.
