AiMA has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Best AI Innovation category of the DPH 2026 Innovation Award, held in Barcelona in June, for this submission authored by Jessica Ortiz Huerta, Alba Barnés Calle and Alex Izquierdo Domenech.
The submission presents AiMA Empathic AI, a digital health assistant that accompanies older adults in their daily lives through natural, voice-based conversations adapted to their emotional state. Designed for users with low digital literacy, the system integrates data from sensor devices to detect behavioural changes, deliver medication and activity reminders, and flag risks such as inactivity or social withdrawal — turning everyday interactions into longitudinal data that can reveal meaningful changes earlier than traditional, episodic care models allow.
AiMA is currently being evaluated through pilot deployments in hospitals, care homes and residential settings, including with Fundación Althaia and the University of Barcelona. With 35 units active, early data shows strong and sustained engagement — one user alone recorded 738 interactions over 15 days — pointing to real-world feasibility and potential scalability across care settings.
