AiMA Beyond AI and Pere Mata Social have launched a pilot study to assess the impact of artificial intelligence on the physical, emotional and cognitive well-being of older adults. The project is being carried out at the Porta Residential and Day Care Centre, managed by Pere Mata Social.
The collaboration between AiMA and Pere Mata Social began following the Mobile World Congress 2026, where initial discussions took place to explore the application of AiMA’s technology in a real-world care setting.
The project focuses on two key areas: AI-assisted functional rehabilitation, through personalised exercises designed to complement the work of care professionals, and an intelligent conversational assistant, personalised using each participant’s life story to encourage conversation, provide emotional support and help address unwanted loneliness.
The study, led by Sara Araque, psychologist at the Porta Residential and Day Care Centre, is expected to run for 11 weeks and involves between 8 and 12 participants in each intervention group. Throughout the study, indicators related to functional ability, emotional well-being, loneliness, cognitive status and participation in activities are being assessed.
The project is currently in the implementation phase. The results will help generate evidence on the real-world impact of these technologies and support the development of solutions that complement the work of professionals while promoting more personalised, person-centred care.
Through this collaboration, AiMA and Pere Mata Social bring together technological innovation, research and care expertise to explore new ways of promoting autonomy, companionship and well-being among older adults.
